The Wellbeing Lab is an experimental space that investigates and researches wellbeing characteristic to Shibuya. By linking scientific insights with the realities of residents' lives and translating these into policy and business initiatives, it aims to advance human-centered urban development to the next stage, involving citizens, government, and businesses alike.
With the aim of promoting human-centered urban development, we will measure quality of life using multifaceted indicators. By employing indicators tailored to Shibuya's local context alongside those of cities worldwide, we will ascertain Shibuya's current position and communicate it clearly.
Building upon domestic and international scientific insights into wellbeing, we will establish a foundation for future policy development by comprehensively addressing the perspectives of individuals and the lessons learned via actual practice.
We will translate insights gained from surveys and research into collaborative initiatives with government bodies, startups, and businesses, challenging ourselves to develop tangible initiatives that people can experience first-hand. We aim to create mechanisms not merely to measure wellbeing, but to nurture it.

The Smart City Institute, as a private-sector-led platform for collaboration between industry, government, academia, and citizens, supports the advancement of smart city and community development initiatives aimed at enhancing citizens' wellbeing.
