Within Shibuya's ever-evolving urban landscape, what kinds of lives and activities will people lead? Public Life Lab reimagines urban spaces from the perspective of those who live there, envisioning future scenarios through research, investigation, and dialogue.Working closely with stakeholders, we develop future visions for how spaces are used and experienced, conduct pilot studies to realise these visions, and devise frameworks and systems to nurture spaces. Through these efforts, we strive to create mechanisms that sustainably enhance the city's value.
Through redevelopment, Shibuya is steadily progressing with the reorganisation of its spaces, and its future vision is taking shape. However, the questions of "what kind of place should these spaces be cultivated into?" and "what kind of engagement and processes should be employed to nurture them?" have been insufficiently explored.Public Life Lab, in collaboration with our partners, will devise strategies for revitalizing and utilizing public spaces in Shibuya.
Redevelopment presents an opportunity to establish new approaches for sustained engagement with the area and nurturing its value. However, the sharing of perspectives and building of relationships necessary to realise this remain in their infancy. We will create spaces for collaborative learning with experts, exploring future ways of engaging with the area while developing these into cooperative initiatives.
Working in collaboration with stakeholders including government bodies, researchers, specialist organizations, and private sector operators, we establish the foundations for guidelines and institutional frameworks concerning the utilization of urban spaces. Our role at Public Life Lab is to design frameworks not merely for 'creating' cities, but for 'continuously nurturing' them.
